The Greater Vancouver Chapter of Advocis proudly presents the second Financial Planning Summit, an event for financial planners and advisors, taking place on March 12, 2020 at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

The Financial Planning Summit 2020 will be a fresh approach to professional development, providing an exciting educational and motivational experience within a vibrant and energetic environment.

Professionals in attendance will be exposed to best practices in all areas of financial planning, including estate, tax, risk and retirement planning. Guest speakers and representatives from outside the industry will also be featured to provide insight and expertise from diverse perspectives, creating a more holistic professional development experience.

Kim G C Moody FCPA, FCA, TEP, is a Chartered Accountant, Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner and a tax specialist practicing in Calgary as the CEO / Director Canadian Tax Advisory with Moodys Gartner Tax Law LLP / Moodys Private Client LLP. His main area of expertise is tax and estate planning for the owner-manager of private corporations, executives, professional athletes and other high net worth individuals. Kim obtained his Bachelor of Management degree from The University of Lethbridge and his CA designation from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.

Kim is a Past Chair and Past Deputy Chair of the Board, Past Treasurer, as well as Past Chair of the Technical Committee for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners of Canada ("STEP"). In addition, Kim is a past Chair of the Board of Governors for the Canadian Tax Foundation. He is also a past Co-Chair of the CBA/CPA Canada Joint Committee on Taxation and a member of The Canadian Petroleum Tax Society. Kim has a keen interest in planned charitable giving. He is a past Chair for the Southern Alberta Round Table for the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. Kim is a co-founder of the Tax Specialist Group – an association of tax specialist firms across Canada. Kim is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Business in Calgary 2012 Leader of Tomorrow Award, and in 2013 was conferred the Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Alberta designation. He is also a recipient of the STEP Founders Award for Outstanding Achievement which was conferred in 2013.

Kim is the author of numerous articles, papers and courses on tax and estate planning and he has lectured extensively for a number of organizations on tax, estate planning and planned giving, including STEP and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He is a past instructor for the Certified Financial Planners designation and is a current tax instructor for the Chartered Professional Accountants of Accountants of Alberta Professional Development Program. Kim has also lectured as a guest faculty member of national educational institute, Knowledge Bureau.

Kim is married to Vivian and they have four sons – Alexander, Lucas, Jacob and Benjamin.

Hugh has been active within the financial services industry for over 25 years having held a variety of distribution leadership roles with Great-West Life across Canada.

Currently, Hugh leads the company's Advisory Network, where he is responsible for distribution strategy and delivering an exceptional advisor value proposition. He is also working to shape a public policy environment that supports advisors and customers by leading the company's industry affairs activities.

Hugh's previous leadership roles have included leading the Great-West Life Gold Key organization and the Advice Channel Strategy group.

He is a long-standing member of Advocis as well as being a member of CALU.

Jason is a full time instructor and CEO of Business Career College. In addition to developing courseware and materials, Jason spends much of his time in classrooms across Canada and on the web.

Before joining Business Career College Jason served in the Canadian Forces. He has taught at the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre and the Canadian Forces Peace Support Training Centre. Jason has also served overseas on four operations with the Canadian Armed Forces.

Jason is active in his community, and serves on the boards of the South Alberta Light Horse Regimental Association, McLeod Community League and the Advocis Edmonton Chapter. He provides volunteer financial coaching services to program participants at the Centre to End all Sexual Exploitation, and is engaged in an effort to bring a pro bono financial planning model to Canada.

Jason holds the Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU) designation. Jason has also been awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD).

Melanie joined BMO Trust Company in 2016. Prior to this role she was a partner and lawyer with one of Canada's largest law firms.

Melanie has over 18 years of experience with a wide variety of estate, trust, corporate and tax issues, including estate and trust planning, administration and litigation.

Melanie regularly assists families and business owners with cross-border and international planning and philanthropy issues.

Trevor is the Senior Tax and Estate Planning Advisor for Raymond James Ltd. Trevor works with Raymond James advisors, their clients, accountants and lawyers in developing a broad range of tax related strategies.

He was formerly National Sales Director of a national actuarial consulting company specializing in creating retirement solutions for entrepreneurs and incorporated professionals. In that capacity he was involved directly or indirectly in establishing over 2200 Individual Pension Plans and 500 Retirement Compensation Arrangements, as well as a broad range of other structures and services. Trevor assists advisors and other professionals in developing and implementing a wide range of tax focused solutions, including in the realm of life insurance and living benefits

Trevor contributed to the Essential IPP Guide, the Trusted Advisor Survival Kit and Advisors Seeking Knowledge. He has also written for CALU, on a variety of subjects including insurance valuation issues, and Individual Pension Plans. Trevor co-presented a paper on IPPs at the 2018 STEP National Conference. He is currently working on book on tax and succession planning for professionals and entrepreneurs that should be published in 2019.

Trevor was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996 and in 2019 was elected as a Bencher to the Law Society of Ontario. He holds a Master Laws in Taxation from Osgoode Hall Law School, a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University, a Master of Arts in History from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College at the University of Toronto.

In addition to being an Associate Member of CALU, Trevor is also a member of Advocis holding the CLU designation, the Canadian Tax Foundation, , Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Hamilton Law Association, Canadian Association of Farm Advisors, Ontario Bar Association, Royal Canadian Military Institute, Albany Club, Waterford Sportsman's Club and Nectar Wine Society.

Trevor is a regular speaker across Canada speaking on a broad range of tax and financial planning and strategy related issues. He is a vehement defender of entrepreneurial spirit, personal responsibility, free enterprise, free speech and liberty. He lives in Ancaster, Ontario with his wife Lindsey and their three young daughters.

Brenda brings a unique skill set to RBC. Her 30-year career spans law, insurance and philanthropy. As an estate and trust lawyer she developed an expertise in charitable giving. As an estate and tax consultant with Canada Life, she acquired an intimate understanding of insurance as a tax effective estate planning tool.

Brenda uses a creative multidisciplinary approach to helping affluent clients define and craft their financial legacy. She applies her specialized knowledge of insurance and trusts to customize solutions for each client's individual circumstances.

Brenda received her B.Comm. and LL.B from the University of B.C. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. She is a frequent lecturer on succession planning and charitable giving.

Charlie Conron is the CTO and Founder of Life Design Analysis Software. LDA is a software created to help insurance advisors communicate insurance solutions more easily and effectively.

Charlie's background is in mechanical engineering spending several years working for a magnesium diecasting firm, however, when recruited to the insurance industry by his stepfather (a 50-year producer) to see what technology could do for his practice his career path changed. Charlie saw insurance from the perspective of the consumers and saw a big flaw in how insurance is researched, presented and sold to consumers.

Charlie created Life Design Analysis software working with his stepfather, after successfully tripling revenue they transformed the software to a web-based platform in 2014. The business has grown significantly year over year with thousands of advisors benefiting from increased productivity, revenue and compliance. In his spare time, Charlie enjoys golfing, cooking and spending time with his wife and kids.
