Event Review: The Advocis Vancouver Ladies Luncheon
Back in February I had the privilege of attending a sold-out Advocis Vancouver Ladies’ Luncheon at the Vancouver Club. This was the first ladies focused seminar hosted by Advocis.
The guest of honour was Diane Dupuis, who opened a successful financial planning firm in 1985. Diane has used her drive and ambition to build Dupuis Langen Financial Management into one of the most respected companies in the insurance industry in British Columbia.
Diane’s Vice President of Finance, Iwona Nicastri was also present. As a “younger” female in the financial planning industry, I found it insightful to hear from both a seasoned professional like Diane as well as her future successor, Iwona, who is juggling a full-time career and a young family.
There weren’t any magical elements that created these ladies’ success. It was tenacity and hard work that made Diane and Iwona successful in a male dominated industry. As much as I was hoping to hear that it was easy for Iwona to be a super-mom and financial superstar, she spoke of many late nights when her husband would put the children to bed. Diane herself chose not to have children and focused on her career and husband and still works incredibly long hours. That’s the reality of any successful person – it’s hard work and some sacrifices have to be made.
The seminar was a very inspiring and insightful experience. Questions were asked in an interview style format with Iwona as the interviewer and Diane the interviewee, and included questions from the audience. I highly encourage females in the financial planning industry to attend the next luncheon to network and be inspired.
